ISDP 2023 Symposium Proposal Submission

On behalf of the Program Committee for ISDP 2023, we we invite Symposium Proposal Submissions. To submit a Symposium Proposal, you do not need to be an ISDP member, but at least one speaker must be an ISDP member and speakers must represent different laboratories and locations. The Symposium should be 1.5 hours in length, 4-5 speakers allowing time at the end of the session for discussion and Q&A,  please plan for 1.5 hours total time, to include the introduction, the presentations and the Q&A Discussion. If your symposium proposal is chosen for inclusion in the program, the information you submit will be made available on the ISDP Meeting Website and in the meeting program. Successful symposium proposals will include a description of the symposium, a list of all speakers and session chair(s), as well as a discussant if applicable, and an abstract for each of the presentations (about 250 words per presentation abstract). The proposed symposium will cover cutting-edge interdisciplinary data and novel methods relevant to longitudinal and translational models of development with special emphasis on how environmental factors, such as early adversity, alter developmental trajectories. Research promoting both human and animal models highlighting complementary or translational work across species are encouraged. ISDP’s annual meeting provides a unique opportunity for advanced researchers, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduate students who share a common interest in developmental processes share their science in a scholarly and collegial atmosphere with no competing sessions which facilitates interactions across disciplines and levels of expertise.

We are particularly interested in proposals that are likely to stimulate formal and informal discussion. Although the inclusion of a discussant is not a requirement, there should be integration of topics across the individual speakers. The Program Committee is also especially interested in a “Young Investigators Symposium”, sponsored by Wiley, the ISDP encourages submissions from investigators within seven years of earning a PhD to submit a Young Investigators Symposium. Student/Postdoc ISDP member speakers invited to participate in the Young Investigator Symposium will be eligible for ISDP Student/Postdoc Travel Awards.
 

Virtual Participation of Presentations

This year we will only accept Symposium Submissions with not more than 1 virtual presenter. Virtual presenters will be required to pre-record their presentation and submit it the ISDP Office at least 48 hours advance of the session. The presentation will be uploaded to our Virtual Platform and presented shortly after the live presentations in the virtual platform as well as in the meeting room at the scheduled time of presentation. The Virtual presenter will be required to register for a virtual registration and will be sent an invitation to join the session in Zoom and participate in Q&A.

  • Sleep
  • Neurodevelopment and Plasticity, including imaging work, Learning, Memory
  • Cognitive Processes
  • Genetics and Epigenetics
  • Stress
  • Adversity
  • GxE Interactions
  • Cultural Influences
  • Sensori-motor development
  • Parental behavior (maternal, paternal or parent-child interactions)

More than one of the above topics can be chosen.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Interest to ISDP members
  2. Innovation and novelty, including cross-disciplinary topics
  3. Reputation, country and diversity of speakers
  4. Likelihood that the symposium will generate discussion and/or stimulate fruitful interactions
  5. Preference for symposia that integrate animal and human research

One symposium will be awarded a Columbia University in the City of New York travel grant of $3000 to defray costs of attendance of symposium speakers (registration & travel, to be distributed as per the wishes of the Symposium Chair(s). One symposium will be accepted as the Young Investigators Symposium and will benefit from a $1,000 grant from Wiley, publishers of Developmental Psychobiology to be distributed amongst the trainee participants in the session. All symposium speakers who are not members of ISDP will be granted free membership and member discounted registration fees.
