In order to more easily and carefully process the award
applications please carefully follow the file naming directions
provided below. This will allow the files to be automatically
sorted. Failure to follow these directions means that the award
processing will be slower for everyone and reduce the chances of
a favorable outcome for your application.

Applicants, advisors, and nominators can all submit to the above
email address by following the instructions below.
2. Include in the subject field of your email:
The names of the awards you are applying for or nominating
someone for.
3. Attach your application or nomination files
Name your files using the following guideline:
It is critical that you name your application files following
our instructions below so that we can easily locate your
application materials.
(1) The file name should contain strings of letters separated by
an underscore “_”: e.g. S1_S2_S3_S4.ext
(2) 1st and 2nd strings S1 and S2: first author’s Last and First
name;
(3) 3rd string S3: abs, sum, CV, letter, or pub to indicate the
content of the document;
(4) 4th string S4: advisor’s last name if appropriate.
(5) ext: indicating file type including doc, pdf, txt, etc.
Convert to pdf in you can.
For example:
Smith_John_abs.doc (Abstract of John Smith)
Smith_John_sum.doc (Thesis summary of Smith)
Smith_John_cv.pdf (CV of Smith)
Smith_John_letter_Tang.pdf (recommendation letter for Smith from

Senior Investigator Award
This award is for recognizing significant contributions to
Developmental Psychobiology made by a senior scientist.
Nominations must be made by a regular (non-student) member of
the Society.
The winner of this award will be invited to give a special
presentation of his/her work at the annual meeting.
Criteria:
a. The nominee must be a current or former member of the Society
who received their Ph.D. or M.D. at least 20 years prior to the
nomination.
b. The nominee must have a record of significant and sustained
contributions to the field.
Nomination materials:
1. A letter documenting the nominee's research and scholarly
contributions
2. The nominee's current CV.
3. At least two but not more than four, of the nominee's most
significant publications.
Kucharski Young Investigator Award
This award is given to honor the memory of David Kucharski, a
promising young investigator in the field of Developmental
Psychobiology. Nominations may be made only by a regular
(non-student) member of the Society.
The winner of this award will be invited to give a special
presentation of his/her work at the annual meeting.
Criteria:
a. The nominee must be a member at the time of application;
b. The nominee must have received their Ph.D. or M.D. at least
4, but no more than 7 years prior to the nomination.
c. The nominee must have established a record of publications
(including in press articles) that are independent and
exceptional contributions to the field of Developmental
Psychobiology.
d. The nominee must have a record of academic accomplishments.
Nomination materials:
1. Promise of the applicant for a career in Developmental
Psychobiology. A letter documenting the nominee’s research
contributions.
2. The nominee’s current CV.
3. At least two, but not more than four, of the nominee’s most
significant publications.
Dissertation Award
This Dissertation Award honors outstanding scientists early in
their careers and to help defray costs of attending the meeting.
The winner of this award will be invited to give a special
presentation of his/her dissertation at the annual meeting.
Nominations may be made only by a regular (non-student) member
of the Society.
Criteria:
a. The nominee must be a member of ISDP;
b. The nominee must have successfully completed their doctoral
defense and been granted their degree within 18 months prior to
the nomination;
c. The nominee must show originality and demonstrate
significance of the dissertation research;
d. The dissertation summary must be of high quality;
e. The nominee must show promise of a career in Developmental
Psychobiology.
Nomination materials:
1. A letter discussing the quality of the nominee's dissertation
research.
2. The nominee's current CV.
3. A summary of the dissertation, not to exceed 7 double-spaced
pages
4. A copy of the abstract
The Sandra G. Wiener Student Investigator Award
This award was established in memory of Sandra Wiener to help
defray costs of graduate students attending the annual meeting
of ISDP. These awards honor Sandy for her interest and concern
for students and her dedication and affection for ISDP.
Criteria:
a. The applicant must be currently enrolled as a bona fide
graduate student,
b. The applicant must be first author of a presentation;
c. The applicant must be a member of ISDP at the time of
application;
d. The applicant has not won this award in the past;
e. The submitted work must show originality and significance;
f. The abstract must be well written.
g. The applicant must have an overall good academic record;
h. The applicant must be committed to the field of Developmental
Psychobiology.
Application materials:
1. A letter of recommendation from the student’s research
advisor or lab director that documents the student’s status, the
level of independence of the student's contribution.
2. Applicant’s current CV.
3. Applicant’s abstract.
NIH Travel Awards
This award is to support undergraduates, graduate students or
post-doctoral fellows to attend the annual society conference.
Preference will be given to those applicants that have not
previously won an NIH Travel Award.
Criteria:
a. Applicant must be an author on an abstract and only one
author per abstract can apply;
b. Applicant must be a member of ISDP;
c. The submitted work must show originality and significance;
d. The abstract must be well written.
e. The applicant must have an overall good academic record;
f. The applicant must be committed to the field of Developmental
Psychobiology.
Application materials:
1. A letter of recommendation from the student’s research
advisor or lab director that documents the student’s status, the
level of independence of the student's contribution.
2. Applicant’s current CV.
3. Applicant’s abstract.
Please note that the recommender may send the letter of recommendation
separately from the applicant who may send the current CV and
abstract.
Best Student Paper Award
The Hennessy-Smotherman Best Student Paper Award will be made
for the best paper by a student published in Developmental
Psychobiology over a one year period. The goals of the award
are: (1) to promote the highest quality of student research in
the field of developmental psychobiology, and (2) to encourage
students in the field to submit their best work to Developmental
Psychobiology. Neither the contestant nor the advisor need to
attend the annual meeting or to be a member of the Society to be
eligible (though both attendance and membership are encouraged)
The winner will be awarded a $500 prize and will have his/her
name announced at the annual meeting.
Criteria:
a. The research must have been completed before the PhD was
awarded.
b. The student must be first author.
c. The manuscript must have been submitted within 3 years of
receiving the PHD.
d. The research must show scientific significance, originality,
and exceptional presentation style.

for your manuscript to be considered. Requests to be considered
for this award are accepted throughout the calendar year.

Best Poster Award
To be awarded to undergraduate students, graduate students, or
postdoctoral fellows based on their presentation at the annual
ISDP meeting.
The poster award selection committee will be appointed by the
ISDP executive committee and judges will include ISDP members
and invited speakers. The winners will be announced at the
business meeting at the conclusion of the ISDP meeting.
Criteria:
a. The winner must be a first and presenting author;
b. The research must be high quality and original;
c. The presentation during the poster session must be high
quality.
To be considered,
You must be present at your poster when the judges visit your
poster. Remember multiple judges will be participating in the
selection process.
Distinguished Service Award
Nominations are accepted for the ISDP Award for Significant
Service Contributions. The winner of this award will be
acknowledged at the annual meeting.
Criteria:
a. The nominee must be a current or former members
b. The nominee must have made significant and sustained service
contributions to the Society
Nomination materials:
1. A letter documenting the nominee's service contributions to
ISDP;
2. The nominee's current CV.
